When are Learning Support Sessions on?

The College conducts Learning Support Sessions daily at lunchtime for twenty minutes in Moondah.

How will I know if I have a Learning Support Session?

If a student is given a LSS it will show on their schedule in Compass. They will also receive a notification, which parents can also see. Ultimately it is your responsibility to be aware if you have a Learning Support Session and it is your responsibility to attend.

Why did I receive a Learning Support Session?

  • If students are not following the High 5 they may find themselves in a Learning Support Session. If students are marked out of uniform they will be placed on the lunchtime Learning Support Session list. LG teachers or Year Level Leaders may also place students on a Learning Support Session if they have done the wrong thing.
  • If students have unsubmitted learning tasks or performance tasks where they did not reach the competent level they may be placed in a Learning Support Session. Classroom teachers must meet the students in the session to explain what needs to be done.
  • If students are frequently late to class or are not bringing the required equipment staff may place them in a Learning Support Session.
  • Students marked out of uniform are added to the Learning Support Session list each day by LCC Admin assistants. They are added to the electronic Learning Support Session roll.

What do I do in a Learning Support Session?

  • Students must go straight to the LSS after Period 4.
  • Students will complete assigned work or complete tasks from their progress bars.
  • Students must not eat during a LSS and will have their lunch once the LSS is finished.
  • Students must sit at individual desks and get on with their work quietly.
  • The cut off time for students to be placed in a LSS on a particular day is the end of Period 2.
  • Sessions will be supervised by an experienced teacher.
  •  An admin assistant will be in attendance at the start of each session for roll marking purposes, they will leave once the roll has been marked.
  • Students must bring their netbook to each session so that they can get on with their work. If a student forgets to bring their equipment they might be asked to leave and marked not present, which will trigger another LSS.

What happens if I don’t attend a Learning Support Session?

  • If a student fails to attend a LSS, they will be given another one the very next school day.
  • If a student fails to attend a rescheduled LSS they will receive an after school detention.
  • After school detentions will run on a Thursday from 3:30pm for an hour. They will be in Moondah and supervised by an experienced teacher.
  • Students can also be placed in an after school detention for doing the wrong thing by a Level Leader.
  • Students will receive a minimum of 48 hours notice before their after school detention.
  • Parents of students in an after school detention will receive an email and a text message reminding them to organise alternative transport if their student normally catches a school bus or a train.
  • Students will predominantly carry out community service work whilst in detention, this will depend on student numbers and available jobs.
  • If a student fails to attend an after school detention they will receive an internal suspension. This will be overseen by the LCC and in conjunction with the required suspension paperwork.

The flowchart below explains how the process will work if a student failed to attend a LSS.
